Frequently Asked Questions

How often should I have an eye exam?

Our doctors recommend annual exams, however, this may change depending on an individual's needs or medical condition.

Is my eye exam covered by OHIP?

Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP) covers annual eye exams for:

  • Children ages 0-19

  • Seniors ages 65+

  • Adults with certain medical conditions (glaucoma, diabetes, retinal disease and more)

What is done at an eye exam?

Our doctors perform thorough eye examinations for each patient. The doctor will test your vision, assess how your eyes work together, determine your eyeglass prescription and observe the overall health of your eye. If any results are abnormal, our doctors may perform ancillary tests to establish a cause for the abnormality.

If I have an eye emergency should I see an optometrist or go to the walk-in?

Physicians are trained to treat all medical conditions. However, they do not have necessary equipment readily available to diagnose various eye diseases. If you are experiencing an ocular emergency it is best to see an optometrist immediately. Our doctors will always do their best to promptly accommodate patients experiencing an ocular emergency.
